Hogwarts Legacy achievements reveal most popular Hogwarts house

What is the most popular Hogwarts house? While many would believe that Gryffindor should be the frontrunner, thanks to its portrayal in the books and movies, Hogwarts Legacy achievement data tells a different story.

To get sorted into a house in Hogwarts Legacy, you can complete a quiz on the Wizarding World website before you play or let the game's Sorting Hat decide your fate by answering a few questions. However, with the latter option, you can ultimately just pick which house you want to be in and start your journey from there. Interestingly the Hogwarts Legacy achievements give us an insight into which Hogwarts house is the most popular, as there are achievements for reaching a certain point in the game (which only takes a couple of hours) in Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, or Hufflepuff. And wouldn't you know it? Gryffindor has not come out on top, despite the emphasis put on the 'good' house in the movies and books.

What is the most popular Hogwarts house?

It seems that players did not listen to Ron Weasley when he uttered the words: "There's not a single witch or wizard who went bad who wasn't in Slytherin." According to global Xbox achievement data, the most popular Hogwarts house is Slytherin. The Toast of The Town achievement, which requires you to find the Map Chamber as a Slytherin, has seen 35.28% of players who have started the game unlock the achievement. The second most popular house is Gryffindor, with 32.70% of players unlocking The Gryffindor in the Graveyard achievement, followed in third by Ravenclaw, with just 23.81% of players opting for Team Blue and unlocking The Wise Owl achievement. Finally, bringing up the rear is poor old Hufflepuff, with a lowly 17.59% of those who have started the game unlocking The Auror's Apprentice achievement. Stats for TrueAchievements members also follow the same trend but with lower percentages.

We find a similar story when we look at the global unlock of the Hogwarts Legacy trophies: Slytherin 24.6%, Gryffindor 22.6%, Ravenclaw 16.9%, Hufflepuff 10.5%. In fact, so few players have chosen either Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff and made it to the point where the trophy pops, The Wise Owl and The Auror's Apprentice trophies have been classed as 'Very Rare' on the PlayStation Network.

Considering the focus the wider Harry Potter universe puts on Gryffindor, it's quite a surprise to see Slytherin take the cup for the most popular Hogwarts house. Perhaps the Sorting Hat has a bias towards Slytherin? Perhaps players don't want to play as a goody-two-shoes Gryffindor and want to live out the fantasy of being a dastardly witch or wizard for Team Green. Let's be honest, though, it's not in the least bit surprising to see Hufflepuff come in last — we all know Hufflepuff sucks, and out of all the animals in the world Hufflepuff could have picked for its mascot, it picks a badger? Come on... nobody is picking that over the snake, lion, or the eagle.
